monkton is situated to the south of the world heritage city of bath. founded in 1868, this independent, co-educational school supports a broad education for approximately 900 pupils aged from 5-18.

the existing music school building has been significantly extended and adapted to provide an outstanding environment for music education. the central entrance hub and feature stairwell links all parts of the building and efficiently delivers and separates group and individual tutees.

remodelled music practice and theory teaching rooms on two floors wrap the new state of the art rehearsal hall that accommodates a full orchestra and is popular with bath festival musicians looking for practice within a superlative and adaptable performance acoustic.

to compliment this, 4 professional recording studios and full production facilities are located within an extended undercroft space and are linked to all areas of the building. Involvement with music at monkton has risen from less than 30% to over 90% in the immediate period following completion of the facility.
