Denbigh Terrace is a coloured Victorian Terrace situated in Notting Hill. We were asked to make modest alterations to the rear elevation of the property. The works comprise of the demolition of an existing ‘modern conservatory’ located at lower ground floor level, along with sections of existing white render; to be replaced by a modest extension that will have a more harmonious appearance with the existing building and neighbouring properties.

The proposals will greatly improve the character and feeling of space of the living/dining area on the lower ground floor. The inclusion of new enlarged bi-fold doors to this space will benefit a direct ‘inside-outside’ connection to the reduced level external garden terrace area at the rear. The new terrace level is to match that of the neighbour and a  new rooflight is to also proposed within the new flat roof structure, offering improved levels of natural light to penetrate into the kitchen / dining area. Proposals also included new enlarged external balcony doors at ground floor level, new replacement double glazed windows throughout; and new associated external garden/terrace works that will benefit/connect the main family living space at lower ground floor level. Internal alterations are also proposed that will help meet the owner’s evolving family needs.

The new extension aims to enhance energy conservation standards including upgrades to the new rear courtyard wall and roof fabric, plus new double glazing to existing timber sash windows.

The design has been thoughtfully considered to create a solution that satisfies the evolving needs and requirements of this residential dwelling, to improve the existing structure and fabric through the replacement of a low-quality modern extension, with a new high-quality proposal.  The proposals provide an addition that has been carefully and sympathetically designed to work with its neighbours, for a harmonious appearance and enhancement within the conservation area. The proposals improve visual appearance, as well as the demand for functionality of this residential property.
